New to the USA is a 29' Picnic Launch (enhanced version of the original 27' model), a popular moniker for shallow draft boats that elegantly perform with aplomb and versatility. This 29-footer is hand-built in Holland and demonstrates Dutch craftsmanship. The beamy hand-laid fiberglass hull has modest flare forward that tapers to a gentle tumblehome at the transom and allows generous accommodations on deck and below, thanks to the 9’6” beam.
Character lines are abundant throughout, from the varnished mahogany stern with a stylish reverse transom and swim platform to the miniature bow sprit equipped with a windlass and anchor.
Joinery is exquisite throughout. Ample space is provided for digital engine instrumentation, electronic engine controls, and the latest electronics in a unique center helm. Flanking the helm, teak-planked settees with built-in storage seat eight comfortably and the mahogany joinery framework is a delight. The captain is truly in the center of the action! A low-profile dodger blocks the wind, yet doesn’t interfere with the helmsman’s line of sight. Wide side decks ease access forward. Even the thick rope rubric adds a salty Dutch badge. Forward, varnished louver doors lead to a cuddy cabin with a v-berth, cushions, concealed toilet, and sink.
